From start to finish, make jewelry while learning professional metalsmithing and jewelry techniques from former professor, Christine Clark. Each course will guide you through several technical processes as you make your way through a wide variety of projects.

Learn to make beautiful pieces of jewelry such as brooches, pendants, neckpieces, rings and much more, as you work with copper, brass, bronze and sterling silver. Step-by-step, each project will lead you to your independence as a metalsmith.

Session 1 - Calder Inspired Brooch

Create this fun and easy brooch inspired by Alexander Calder and his jewelry. With a minimum of inexpensive tools, learn to use various tools, bend wire precisely, hammer wire flat and create a functioning pin stem.

Session 2 - Neckpiece 1

Explore precision wire bending, forging and jump ring making with this first neckpiece project inspired by Alexander Calder. Practice consistency and efficiency methods through repeated neckpiece elements. Discover how an integrated clasp will make this neckpiece seem seamless as it sits elegantly around the neck. This session also includes many resource pages such as videos, documents and information not included in the session video.

Session 3 - Neckpiece 2

A second neckpiece project inspired by Alexander Calder. This elegant neckpiece is simple and fun to make using a minimum number of inexpensive tools. Processes include an in-depth look at forging, working with a heavier gauge metal and drilling holes for a new way of connecting elements. Included is how to make an integrated clasp and continued work on multiples, consistency and efficiency. This session also includes many resource pages such as videos, documents and information not included in the session video.

Session 4 - Neckpiece 3

Create one more neckpiece and learn new connections with repeated elements, drilled holes, and two sizes of jump rings. Continue learning forging, working with multiples, practice consistency and efficiency methods and, another integrated clasp. With every project you make, you'll add to your jewelry and metalsmithing vocabulary so you can create your own designs. This session also includes many resource pages such as videos, documents and information not included in the session video.

Sessions 2,3,4 - Three Calder-inspired Neckpieces

Get three sessions for the price of two when you sign up for this bundle. The process you'll learn in all three sessions will help build your jewelry and metalsmithing vocabulary skills so you can design and make your own pieces.

Session 5 - Making With Elements

14 videos and 4 resource pages make up this chock-full session. Learn to make individual elements so you can design and make your own jewelry. Included in this package is how to make your own chains, clasps, and ear wires for making pendants, neckpieces, bracelets, and earrings.

Session 6 - Riveting

Discover rivets and all its possibilities! In this session, we'll be going over three basic rivets, riveting forged elements together, and making forged and riveted bangle bracelets. Learn how this cold connection can enhance any jewelry making project.

Session 7 - Piercing/Pierced Picture

Create a pierced sheet metal picture with simple lines using the jeweler's saw. Finishing the surface of copper or brass sheet, drilling, threading your saw blade through fine holes, and sawing is covered in this session. Gain great control over your jeweler's saw as you make a unique image of your own choosing. You'll be guided through each step as you learn this basic and necessary jewelry making skill.

Session 8 - Intro to Soldering Chains

An introduction to soldering, practice this valuable and important jewelry making process as you create two beautiful chains. Work with sterling silver, or copper and brass to create uniquely shaped forged links, jump rings, and clasps. Focus on working with sheet solder, flux, using the pickle, and cleaning up your chains.

Who is Christine Clark?

Christine Clark is an artist living and working in Portland OR. Her work focuses on public art, installation art and abstract sculpture in steel, steel wire and mixed materials. She is a former Professor and Head of the Metals department at Oregon College of Art and Craft where she taught jewelry/metalsmithing, sculpture and installation art for over 30 years. She is an enthusiastic teacher, loves interacting with students and is an all-around optimist about craft and making. Clark is a member of  Nine Gallery, an alternative art gallery that exhibits experimental and installation-based work and is co-owner of Ninety Twenty Studios, a maker/education space in Portland.

Ninety Twenty Workshop

Ninety Twenty Workshop is an educational aspect of Ninety Twenty Studios, a maker space in Portland, OR, where craft can succeed as we work within robust material practices. Our on-line educational model  provides classes on jewelry making and metalsmithing practices, from beginning to advanced.
